The saying goes that you can never have too much of a good thing.
I’m not sure about that – no matter how tasty the tequila, anything past three shots is asking for trouble. Make that two shots if you have crossed over the 35-year-old mark but haven’t yet acquired the fabled ballie drinking strength.
More is always welcome when it comes to a wider range of quality gin offerings, of course. Given Kinship Spirits‘ track record with the superb Malachite Gin, recently nominated in the ‘Best Local Craft Gin’ category at the Best of the Cape Awards, there’s good reason to be excited about The Drum Gin Club.
The newly released African dry gin has just hit the market and is a salute to the characters, the entertainers, and those who love life.
Each gin is a story in a bottle, and The Drum Gin Club is no different, inspired by the ideals of community, of hope, and a bright future realised through a shared sense of belonging.
The gin itself is juniper rich and citrussy with an unusual spice unfolding with the full vocabulary of African botanicals.
On the nose, it has a sweetness from rich citrus along with notes of mace and grains of paradise.
The body of the gin is full and well-rounded with a rich beginning, flavourful middle, and unique finish coming through from the African Bird’s Eye chilli.
It’s best enjoyed with a quality tonic and some lime zest, although by now I’ll trust you’re well-versed in how you like your drinks mixed.
Like the entire Kinship Spirits range, the bottle is a work of art which draws on uniquely South African inspirations. Let’s get in a little closer:
I’ve yet to bring out a bottle of Malachite Gin without someone commenting on how great the bottle looks. I suspect the same will be true with a bottle of The Drum Gin Club.
It’s currently on sale via the Kinship Spirits Online Shop, where the purchase of any product comes with a free Mini Karo Cape Brandy XO (50ml).
As we edge our way closer to the end of winter, I’m already planning those gin and tonic warm evening sessions and The Drum Gin Club is guaranteed to make an appearance.
