You know things are about to take a dark turn when Florence Pugh (playing a “pretty little fool” housewife) breaks an empty egg in the trailer for Don’t Worry Darling.
Except, that onscreen drama and tension are hard to focus on with the actual scandals coming from the cast during filming.
The much anticipated psychological thriller directed by Olivia Wilde and starring Harry Styles (now a couple!) has become a hotbed of gossip, and not just because of its raunchy sex scenes.
The headlines surrounding these three aforementioned names have become so melodramatic that The Daily Beast – which called the film “the Most Scandalous Movie of the Year” – is wondering if it will threaten to “overshadow the upcoming press tour and maybe even the project itself”.
First up on the tabloid table, Wilde fired Shia LaBeouf for “display[ing] poor behaviour” on set and replaced him with Harry Styles. It’s rumoured she might have left her fiancé of nine years, Jason Sudeikis, for Styles as their romance heated up during filming:
The media circus officially amped up when Wilde and Styles were photographed holding hands while attending a wedding a few months later in January of 2021.
Many social media users, particularly Styles’ army of stans and people who apparently have very strong feelings about Ted Lasso, didn’t take this new couple alert lightly, criticizing the pair’s 10-year age difference and speculating that Wilde had begun an affair with Styles during filming before she and Sudeikis had called it quits.
Wilde shares two kids with Sudeikis, by the way.
While the new couple has not been direct about their blossoming romance, being photographed cosying up together and supporting each other at concerts and through music (Harry’s song ‘Cinema’ might be about Olivia) is proof enough for the gossip mongers to run with the rumours:

The romance between Wilde and Styles has seemingly left Pugh, who plays Harry’s wife in Don’t Worry Darling, a little annoyed:
It turns out that there are multiple layers to the widely-peddled conspiracy across Film Tik Tok and Film Twitter that Pugh despises Wilde, all stemming from her romance with Styles.
In July, a source told Page Six that Pugh was uncomfortable watching the couple “all over each other” on the set of Don’t Worry Darling given that Sudeikis and their two kids would visit the production frequently.
Pugh has been somewhat slow to post any promotional content around Wilde’s movie, opting instead to promote her upcoming movie Oppenheimer.
There’s more tea. Wilde was served custody papers from a process server representing Sudeikis while promoting her film at CinemaCon this past April, sending Harry’s online army after her with more abuse:
Immediately, envelope-gate became one of the most shocking and random celebrity stories of the year so far, with folks wondering whether Sudeikis arranged for his ex to receive the documents in a public setting with the purpose of humiliating her.
Others speculated that it was Wilde who revealed the contents of the envelope to the press to get back at him. Sudeikis has since denied that he orchestrated the ambush.
However, Wilde accused her ex of “intend[ing] to threaten [her] and catch [her] off guard” in court documents that were acquired by Page Six last week.
With the press cycle for the film already a hot mess, all eyes will be on the strange love shapes and tensions formed between the cast and crew of Don’t Worry Darling.
Oh yes, the trailer:
The film is set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September and will hit theatres later that month.
