Part one of My Name Is Reeva will premiere on M-Net (DStv Channel 101) tomorrow (Thursday, August 25) at 8:30PM.
While there have been plenty of documentaries and series unpacking Oscar Pistorius’ fall from grace and Reeva’s death, My Name is Reeva is the first to get her family’s seal of approval.
Reeva’s parents, Barry and June Steenkamp, have given director Warren Batchelor their full endorsement to “bring out the truth in this documentary and show the world who Reeva really was”.
Promotion for the three-part docuseries started last month with a very brief trailer and a press release from DStv.
Now Carte Blanche has shed a little more light on what we can expect:
How does one heal from the devastating loss of a child? The Oscar Pistorius trial centred on a hero’s fall from grace, with media from around the world dissecting every aspect of Reeva Steenkamp’s final moments.
From Thursday 25 August at 8:30pm, M-Net 101 will be broadcasting a 3-part documentary called “My Name is Reeva”.
Including intimate interviews with her parents, June and Barry, it seeks to centre Reeva in this tragedy and examines difficult concepts like retribution, redemption, and forgiveness
The issue of forgiveness has been front and centre during Pistorius’ parole process, with the disgraced athlete’s lawyers accusing Barry and June of deliberately stalling.
Here’s the short segment released on YouTube earlier today:
Part two will air on Thursday, September 1, and the third instalment on Thursday, September 8, both at 8:30PM.
