Largely directed towards those living in the Northern Hemisphere, AKA Americans and Europeans, AKA the okes with the big bucks (relative to the rand), Tripadvisor has tagged Cape Town as a place to visit this September.
We simply looooove to hear it.
“In autumn, slowing down your plans after an active summer can feel like an exhale, but that doesn’t mean you have to stop travelling” begins the travel directory, going on to list some “relaxed” destinations perfect for “slow travel”.
Yes, please come visit. The city’s tourism industry has been doing its utmost to tantalise travellers near and far with experimental and immersive video games – there’s only so much more they can try.
In all honesty, how could anyone not want to pop int for a visit after seeing a shot like this splashed across the internet – it was Tripadvisor’s header image nogal:
The publication is selling the Mother City with a mention of our myriad wonders, from nature to nightlife to museums and Mzansi-style food:
September marks the start of spring in Cape Town. It’s the tail-end of whale-watching season but the start of wildflower season, which means the hills of Table Mountain are popping with purple, yellow, and orange petals. Cape Town has legendary nightlife, with bars and clubs like Fiction Music Bar and the waterfront Shimmy Beach Club, popular with both locals and tourists.
The dining scene is eclectic, from Reverie Social Table, a 10-person communal fine-dining experience, to Mzansi, a mom-and-pop joint where a home-cooked buffet is accompanied by a live marimba band. Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa is a can’t-miss cultural destination and you can pay your respects to the area’s history with a visit to the District Six Museum, which details the atrocities of apartheid.
It’s nice to see Zeitz MOCAA receiving another mention.
Hearing about Reverie Social Table is a first for me, so I guess even locals can get something out of these recommendations.
The other slow travel destinations listed were Munich, Germany (centred on Oktoberfest, which seems like more of a wild time than a relaxing one, but I suppose it’s still a way to unwind) and the paradise of French Polynesia with its coral walls, private beaches, and sparkling lagoons.
The list also included Lima in Peru and Toronto in Canada.
Holding thumbs that Cape Town is the place that sparks more people’s fancy.
