It’s been a while since we’ve stepped inside the mind of Tim Burton.
The Nightmare Before Christmas was released as far back as 1993.
After that quintessential Burton creation came Corpse Bride released in 2005, which is also an absolute macabre masterpiece and a cult classic.
Golly, aren’t we all so old now?
Besides his other fun and frightening films like Frankenweenie (2012) and Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016), we’ve been waiting for more of his cinematic senses to tingle our spines.
Netflix has stepped up to the plate, bringing everyone’s favourite ghoulish clan, The Addams Family, back to life with Wednesday.
The beloved Addams Family has been through many forms, from a comic strip to a 1960s sitcom to a Tony-nominated musical, notes Variety.
But appearing in a spinoff series for one of the biggest streamers in the world, as well as being executively produced by Burton, is bound to bring them once more into our collective consciousnesses:
…the series follows “You” star Jenna Ortega as Wednesday, the twisted teenage daughter of Morticia and Gomez Addams.
In the spinoff, Wednesday attends Nevermore Academy, where she attempts to master her new psychic abilities and solve a murder mystery connected to her family’s past.
There’s no official release date but there is a teaser trailer:
Burton is responsible for directing four of the eight episodes for Wednesday, with Gandja Monteiro (Brand New Cherry Flavor) and James Marshall (Twin Peaks) serving as additional directors.
Jenna Ortega (YOU, Jane the Virgin) plays the titular character, while Catherine Zeta-Jones stars as Wednesday’s mother Morticia, Luis Guzmán plays Gomez, and Isaac Ordonez is Wednesday’s brother, Pugsley.
Naturally, the disembodied hand servant, Thing, features and is played by Victor Dorobantu, while George Burcea plays servant Lurch.
To connect the past with the present, Christina Ricci, who played the iconic role of Wednesday in the 1990s film series, will make a special appearance as Marilyn Thornhill.
It’s good to have the family back together again, no matter how death-obsessed they are.
