The number one way to ensure you don’t get punched in the head on a night out is to avoid being a doos.
That’s not an option everybody is willing to consider, though, and if you do end up trying to fight somebody I’d then suggest you steer clear of professional MMA fighters.
Viktor Lyall, Australia’s eighth-ranked MMA fighter, could maybe have walked away from the two men who were taunting and threatening him at Brunswick Street Mall in Brisbane, but I guess he reached his breaking point.
The incident actually took place in April, reports NewsAU, but the footage has recently started to circulate after being shared by accounts with sizeable followings.
It’s alleged that Lyall was intervening after spotting the two men kicking another on the ground:
“I never laid hands on either of those males, nor needed to until the events of that video transpired and I needed to defend myself,” Lyall told The Chronicle, walking through his swift head kick on the shirtless man, which was followed up by a check hook to the jaw when he attempted to sucker-punch the trained fighter.
“I was merely involving myself to extricate another party. That’s when I got involved, and that’s the only reason I got involved.
“You can see quite clearly from the video that I don’t want to hurt anyone, otherwise I would have, and I’m walking away getting followed.”
The most widely seen video doing the rounds was put together by Lawrence Kenshin, who runs the @strikingbreakdowns Instagram account.
Kenshin called it “the best self-defence video I’ve seen in a long time”:

Lyall shared the footage to his personal Instagram account, @impalervikki. He also shared this post showing the incident from another angle:

Lyall has been praised by the likes of rising UFC star Paddy Pimblett, who wrote, “What a guy stood his ground and defended himself, be proud of yourself brother.”
Conor McGregor’s training partner Peter Queally responded to the video with a simple “Superb”.
Conor himself may want to take a few notes, given his propensity for punching people for no reason in public.
