WhatsApp is doing well to make messaging a little more private for users.
An incoming update brings a whole host of new features designed to make us less anxious about who sees what, when, and how.
Besides being set to deliver ‘stealth-mode’ with a feature that will enable us to hide our online status, we are also about to enjoy the ability to leave pesky or problematic WhatsApp group chats without alerting everyone to the fact.
Currently, leaving a group chat is a little awkward as everyone can see when you make the decision, which can also be annoying in larger chats, noted CNET.
Now, with the rollout of the new privacy features coming this month, you’ll be able to leave that toxic family group, childish friends group, or stressful work/study group without offending anyone.
They might figure it out later and come for you, but at least you’ll have some time to prepare.
Another measure that WhatsApp is taking in an effort to enhance privacy is a setting that will stop contacts from screenshotting “View Once” messages, which can’t be accessed again after initially being opened.
The screenshot blocking tool is still being tested and will be available later than the other features coming to WhatsApp, per CNN.
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, which owns WhatsApp, said his team would “keep building new ways to protect your messages and keep them as private and secure as face-to-face conversations”.
Yep, that would be nice. The internet can be a scary place.
