A devastating multi-car crash in Los Angeles’ Windsor Hills neighbourhood left six people dead, including a pregnant woman and an infant.
The gruelling scene unfolded yesterday like something in a “war zone”, per the California Highway Patrol, after a Mercedes-Benz skirted a red traffic light at immense speed, crashing into numerous cars and leaving them engulfed in fire.
After failing to brake, reported The Telegraph, the video shows the Mercedes skidding across the busy intersection, slamming into other cars before bursting into flames and hurtling into a light pole, where it comes to rest.
Nine people were injured during the horrendous ordeal, including six children, with eight of them rushed to a nearby hospital.
The driver was one of the people rushed to the hospital having sustained severe injuries, although she was said to be conscious and speaking to investigators.
She must really hate herself right now:
A woman who was hit as she was leaving the petrol station said the accident came out of nowhere:
“All of a sudden that Mercedes is coming at me on… fire. I didn’t have any time to think about it. It hit my car. I veered, hit the bench on the side.”
Another onlooker likened the fiery scene to being in “another World War”:
“A lot of sparks and electricity,” they said.
“I was under the impression that, really at first I thought they dropped a bomb on us. I thought another World War had started. Then I realised it was a car into the sign. Once the fire went away and the booming left, I realised it was two cars there. You could see the people on fire and that’s just sad.”
Terribly sad.
Drive responsibly, everyone.
