Mmusi Maimane can most certainly relate to the struggles faced by everyday South Africans just to make it through the day in one piece.
Last night, reports EWN, the One South Africa party was robbed at gunpoint at a Claremont bar.
Maimane said he was recovering from the traumatic experience, having come face to face with three gunmen who stormed the unnamed bar:
He said that they demanded that all patrons lie on the ground and started robbing them one by one.
Maimane has described the incident as surreal and something out of a movie.
He said that he was hosting his brother-in-law when the robbery took place.
“Three gunmen came into the store. They put everybody down and went table to table and collected items from various tables and held up the management.”
In this case, the victims were fortunate that police and private security companies were promptly on the scene.
Maimane said that a chase ensued and some stolen items were scattered on the side of the road:
“People who were in the restaurant were equally traumatised and so everyone had to give statements. Fortunately, no one was hurt.”
He elaborated during an interview with News24, saying the robbery happened shortly after he entered the premises at around 7:45PM.
A waitress was also caught unawares, initially asking the three men if they wanted a table:
The men then started brandishing weapons and ordered the bartender to hand over cash while forcing patrons to get under their tables. They then proceeded to rob patrons of cellphones, bags, and jewellery…
Maimane said the robbery was over quickly, with security guards who had been alerted to the robbery giving chase but failing to apprehend the gunmen.
Although the establishment has not been named, Maimane shared pictures on his Instagram account:

That looks distinctly like Oblivion, which was hit by an armed robbery in April last year.
