Clearly, we are not talking about Kate Moss or Amber Heard here.
The model, who dated Depp from 1994 until 1997, testified during the recent defamation trial involving Heard and clarified that the actor never pushed her down a flight of stairs at a resort in Jamaica during their relationship.
What we’re learning this week, from the more than 6 000 pages of pretrial documents now unsealed and made public, is that a great deal was omitted from the highly publicised trial.
You’ll find a summary of the standout allegations here. For now, let’s focus on what Depp’s ex, Ellen Barkin, had to say about their time together via NewsAU:
[She] said a “world of violence” surrounds the actor, according to newly unsealed court documents…
Barkin testified in a videotaped deposition [below], which was played for jurors during the live-streamed defamation trial in Fairfax County Circuit Court in Virginia.
However, some of her most damning statements were not admitted in trial.
Depp and Barkin dated briefly in 1997, with the relationship coming to an end when Depp abruptly stopped talking to her.
While the two were on set for the filming of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Barkin says she witnessed Depp throw a wine bottle across a room during an argument with friends.
That didn’t shock her because Depp is “a yeller. He is verbally abusive. And those things you can see.”
The actress described him as a “jealous man, controlling.”
Barkin said Depp was always inebriated or high. “He was drunk all the time,” she told lawyers for Depp and Heard, adding that he used cocaine, hallucinogens and marijuana in her presence.
That jealously was outlined by Barkin’s claims that Depp became enraged when she had a scratch on her back, claiming it must have come from having sex with another man.
Barkin did point out that Depp was very kind to her two children. However, he was disrespectful to people he saw as beneath him and Barkin claims he referred to his assistant as “pig” instead of using his real name.
As for the first time the two had sex, that’s quite a story. This via ET Online:
Barkin said that she and Depp were friends before their relationship became sexual, and she testified about the first time the actor expressed his interest in taking their platonic relationship in a physical direction.
“He came on to me in the living room of my house, pulled me onto his lap and said something like, ‘Oh, come on Ellen,’ or whatever. I protested a little and then — not too much,” she stated. “And that was that.”
When asked to clarify her remarks about how she “protested,” Barkin said that Depp did not assault her, but claimed, “He gave me a Quaalude and asked me if I wanted to f**k.”
You’ve seen The Wolf Of Wall Street. You know about Quaaludes.
In the defamation trial, the jury awarded damages to both, although Depp’s $15 million ($10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million dollars in punitive damages) far outweighed Heard’s $2 million (compensatory damages, with no punitive damages).
Depp will not get that full $15 million amount, regardless of what happens with Heard’s appeal.
