Named after the Norse goddess of love and beauty, Freya, a real whopper of walrus, has been making a massive splash across social media.
She basks, she baths, but most of all, she breaks and buckles a bunch of boats.
The 600-kilogram marine mammal has been spotted in marinas in the UK, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden, and has now chosen to spend her “hot girls’ summer” at an Oslo fjord.
Yaaas, queen, killing it.
Admittedly, she is only fun to watch if you’re not a local boat owner.
Freya is not a friend to those with a vessel to take care of, especially boats that are “not walrus-worthy” as German broadcaster Deutsche Welle put it in a video shot back in June.
Look at her go:
A walrus needs to sleep for up to 20 hours a day so choosing the right boat to lounge on is imperative.
The Guardian reports that a local online newspaper, Verdens Gang, has now included a livestream of Freya’s every move:
Freya first gained notoriety in Norway by climbing on to pleasure boats in Kragero, an idyllic southern coastal village, and has been doing the same in the waters of the capital since 17 July.
The presence of the mammal, which normally lives in the more northerly latitudes of the Arctic, has sparked curiosity among locals and made headlines in the press.
She is merely living her best life:
Freya’s fans now span the globe:

Some are tickled by her ingenuity:

While others are just plain envious of her chosen path:

Poor Freya isn’t getting that much peace according to walrus expert Rune Aae, per HuffPost, and some in the area are keen to have her gone for good.
But Norwegian authorities have decided to leave her in peace since she is “feeding, resting and seems to be in good condition” according to Norway’s Directorate of Fisheries.
The government body also advises that people exercise caution around Freya:
“[She] is not necessarily as slow and ham-fisted as one might think when she is resting,” it said.
“A walrus is not normally a danger to humans as long as you keep a safe distance. But if it is disturbed by humans and doesn’t get the rest it needs, it may feel threatened and attack.”
Yep, please refrain from disturbing a lady getting her beauty sleep at all times, thanks:
