It’s been just over 24 hours since the official teaser for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever dropped and the hype has already gone into overdrive.
The first film smashed a number of South African box office records and even featured a cameo from our own Trevor Noah.
Debuting the teaser footage at the conclusion of Marvel Studios’ massive panel at San Diego Comic-Con Saturday evening was a good idea, as was having writer-director Ryan Coogler on hand to discuss the sequel.
Across Twitter and YouTube alone, the teaser has already been viewed more than 50 million times and will no doubt continue to attract eyeballs ahead of the film’s premiere on November 11.
Let’s add a few more:
First up, let’s get the lowdown on the soundtrack via Collider:
The song that plays in the background of the trailer is an emotional rendition of Bob Marley’s 1974 piece “No Woman, No Cry,” covered by Nigerian artist Tems.
As the trailer’s scenes move from the devastation of King T’Challa’s death to the reclamation of power, the song becomes a remix, featuring songwriter, producer and rapper Kendrick Lamar…
“Alright” is a track off of Lamar’s 2015 Grammy-winning album To Pimp A Butterfly, and rings as an anthem of hope and strength in solidarity.
There’s no word on who else will feature on the soundtrack, Wakanda Forever Prologue, set for release today (July 25).
The film’s official synopsis via IGN reads:
In Marvel Studios’ ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,’ Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira) and the Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba), fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death.
As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda.
Introducing Tenoch Huerta as Namor, king of a hidden undersea nation, the film also stars Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Mabel Cadena and Alex Livanalli.
Chadwick Boseman’s passing has left a massive hole to fill and the teaser isn’t going to give everything away just yet.
A figure can be seen wearing the Black Panther suit at the end of the video. As for which actor is inside it, we are none the wiser.
Fans went to work straight away trying to unpack every little clue on offer. You can go down the wormhole with them regarding how the film will address T’Challa and what his tribute mural means if you’re hungry for more.
Otherwise, sit back and wait for the official trailer and the second official trailer and the trailer outtakes and…
