South Africa’s roads are dangerous for a multitude of reasons.
Hijackings continue across the country, with South African Police Service (SAPS) stats showing that between January and March 2022, a car was hijacked every 25 minutes.
A word of warning for Toyota Hilux and Volkswagen Polo drivers to be on the lookout, given that those are the most targeted models.
Cars that are not roadworthy are also a worry, and you can add reckless behaviour into the mix.
Video shared by anti-crime activist Yusuf Abramjee yesterday shows a total and utter lack of respect for other road users on the busy N3 highway near Durban:

The footage was filmed near the Spaghetti Junction interchange, according to TimesLIVE:
Durban metro Police spokesperson Boysie Zungu… told TimesLIVE on Monday the actions of the driver and passengers were “totally against the law”.
“All should be charged for this behaviour,” he said…
Zungu said Durban metro police would step up freeway patrols to ensure officers were more vigilant.
“We have zero tolerance for this kind of behaviour.”
Find out who they are, throw the book at them, and set a precedent that this sort of nonsense will result in criminal charges.
Alas, I don’t see that happening.
