A gang of 10 carrying guns broke the windows of a jewellery shop at Westville Mall yesterday morning, marking yet another KwaZulu-Natal mall robbery.
The men apparently broke the windows while the jewellery store employees were working, a scene that was caught on camera by witnesses some distance away.
The witnesses were in shock as the men stole an undisclosed amount of jewellery and a box of vouchers before fleeing the scene in a getaway vehicle.
Video of the incident has been making the rounds on social media, showing suspects brandishing their firearms while filling their bags, according to Highway Mail.
While the witnesses tried to make sense of the scene, the suspects made a getaway and the lone security guard was seen exiting the shop before going down the escalator.
According to the bystanders, it was an American Swiss shop:
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Constable Thenjisiwe Ngcobo said that it seemed like the suspects were making their way towards KwaDabeka after their escape.
Although the men had guns on them at the time, no shots were fired, thankfully. A case of robbery has been opened at the Westville police station.
