South Africa is a country with a rich music history. From jazz to pop and rock, South African musicians have always been able to create some incredible songs with unique sounds.
One genre in particular that has seen recent growth in South Africa is rap. There are now many talented rappers coming out of the country, and we wanted to highlight some of the best ones.

Cassper Nyovest
Cassper Nyovest is one of the most popular rappers in South Africa. He has released several albums, as well as being a prolific songwriter, entrepreneur, and even a part-time boxer.
His debut studio album ‘Tsholofelo’ went straight to number one on the South African iTunes albums Chart in 2014. Some of the best tracks on the album included ‘Gusheshe’ and ‘Doc Shebeleza’.
Cassper Nyovest, to date, has released 5 studio albums and even an Amapiano (style of South African house music) album featuring tracks by Zola 7 and Kammu Dee.
AKA
AKA is another well-known South African rapper. He has also released several albums, such as ‘Altar Ego’, ‘Levels’ and ‘Touch My Blood’.
AKA is known for his catchy lyrics. If you’re looking for a rapper whose beats will stick in your head, AKA is definitely one to check out.
Some of his most popular tracks include ‘All Eyes on Me’, ‘Fela In Versace’ and ‘Caiphus Song’.
AKA was the first African artist to appear on a WWE Tour and has a special watermelon collaboration drink with the vodka company Cruz.
Nasty C
Nasty C is quickly gaining in popularity. He has released two albums, ‘Bad Hair’ and ‘Stringy Hair’, as well as a mixtape, titled ‘Craziest’.
Nasty C is known for his unique flow and delivery. Some of his well-known tracks include ‘Hell Naw’, ‘Good Girls’, and ‘Gravy’. Nasty C has also won several awards, including the Best Newcomer award at the 2016 South African Hip Hop Awards.
Kwesta
Kwesta is another popular rapper from South Africa. He’s been on the South African rap scene since he was 15 when he and his friends formed a group called Ghetto Fellaz (which was later changed to The Juvenylz). He has released four studio albums, as well as a number of mixtapes and singles.
Kwesta is an artist that’s focused on story-telling and deep emotive lyrics. Some of his most popular tracks include ‘Ngud’, ‘Do Like I Do’, and ‘Day One’. He’s also had some of his tracks featured in movies such as ‘Death Race 3’.
Khuli Chana
Khuli Chana has been in the rap industry for over a decade. He has released four studio albums and is known for his smooth flow and delivery. Some of his most popular tracks include ‘No Lie’, ‘One Source’, and ‘Moselekatse’.
