Given that a true-crime obsession appears to have gripped the world in recent years (you only need to look at the rise of amateur internet detectives to track that), it wouldn’t surprise me if homes where notorious crimes took place actually saw an increase in asking price.
It’s a little different with Jeffrey Epstein’s two private Caribbean islands, Little St. James and neighbouring Great St. James. Located in the US Virgin Islands, they were dubbed ‘Paedophile Island’ by locals and tales of the horrors that occurred there are well-known.
There was talk early last year that the two islands were attracting interest from buyers, with some parties going as far as to sign non-disclosure agreements with Epstein’s estate, but those must have fallen through.
Having been listed once more at a price of $125 million for both in March, The New York Post reports that the price has dropped:
…the two US Virgin Islands have hit the market for $55 million apiece, representing a 12% reduction in the overall ask…
The option to purchase both islands is still on the table, only now it will cost a combined $110 million.
Despite needing to lower the price tag and distinguishing the two islands, listing rep Adam Modlin of Modlin Group [said] that several potential buyers have expressed interest in the properties, but that there was more interest in them individually than as a pair.
All money from the potential sale of the islands, as well as other properties under the estate’s control, will go towards resolving outstanding lawsuits and the costs of the estate’s operations.
Clearly, a combined price of $110 million leaves a mark but you are getting quite the setup:
Great St. James, across the bay from St. Thomas, spans more than 160 acres. Epstein had only purchased the island in 2016, three years before his arrest on sex trafficking charges. The island was in development, with only a small collection of structures having been built.
Meanwhile, Little St. James, most notoriously known as the island where Epstein allegedly sexually abused minors, has over 70 acres, a helipad, a private dock, a gas station, two pools, a main residential compound, four guest villas, three private beaches, a gym and a tiki hut.
Let’s see some drone footage showing both islands:
Stunning, but how often is the mental image of an underage girl trying to swim to freedom going to pop into your head?
