The 17th international version of the popular Real Housewives franchise, and the fourth to be adapted in Africa, has finally washed up on Cape Town’s shores.
It is bringing along with it all the drama that fans have come to love, along with completely new faces – “an ensemble of influential and affluent women who are beloved, enigmatic and often misunderstood,” reported Channel24.
Besides sharing common ground on the desire to be the best in the Mother City, the women are all quite different, socially and economically – in terms of new and old money, at least.
Let’s meet the homemakers and Mother City-shakers:
Beverley Steyn

Beverly actually hails from KwaZulu-Natal but has been making it happen in Cape Town as a property owner and career investor for five years now.
Per IOL, she likes to think of herself as highly disciplined, passionate, and creative. She adores planes, yachts, fast cars, and a luxury lifestyle – duh.

As an entrepreneur in the health and fitness industry, this fitness influencer can pack a punch; in her own words, “I’m not one for drama, but I will always stand up for what is right.”
Nicknamed RushTush, she does well on the ‘gram with a following of more than 75 000:
She is a qualified personal trainer and online coach and is the mother of three boys. She is focused, passionate and incredibly ambitious.
Always comfortable standing on her own, she doesn’t need acceptance or validation from anyone as she follows her heart.

The holder of a Garagiste winemaking diploma and a member of BLACC – the Black Cellar Club – Thato is a total wine fundi:
Her love of wine led her to create her own brand, Thato Wines, which has just recently been picked up by the SPAR franchise.
Thato’s aim is to reposition wine as something to be appreciated and enjoyed by everyone – not just old, white men.
At least she didn’t say old, white housewives because then the drama would have started before the premiere…
I mean, she has described herself as “controversial, authentic, unfiltered, unapologetic, fun, and explosive”.

The self-proclaimed ‘Queen of Constantia’ (see her Instagram bio) dabbles in all things vintage, from car collecting to antiques:
This flower fanatic and antique expert is highly adaptable and at home everywhere, from the luxury high-end designer stores to hidden gem local thrift shops. Camilla understands that there is more to opulence than just the price tag.

Born in Gqeberha and now a proud Capetonian, Rooksy enjoys surrounding herself with beautiful things:
Through her company, Style Boutique SA, she sells the latest trends in fashion for both men and women. Rooksy is at home in the kitchen and loves baking and trying out new recipes. She would love to have her own cookbook one day.
Rooksy reckons she is “enthusiastic, adventurous, dutiful, loyal, respectful, selfless, and family-oriented”.

Hailing from Khayelitsha, Lulwando still focuses on her roots:
A qualified Chartered Accountant, she has a passion for working with community-based organisations that address issues of GBV and is the founder of an NGO called Wings to Learn.
The property entrepreneur, digital creator, and mom of three says that she can often be misunderstood when she speaks her mind, but has learnt to embrace it.
Those are the noteworthy ‘housewives’ in this neck of the woods, apparently.
You can give them your side-eye or nods of approval when The Real Housewives of Cape Town airs on Mzansi Magic (channel 161 on DStv) on Sunday, July 10.
