In the early hours of Sunday, a gang of robbers smashed the door of a store in Durban’s Gateway Theatre of Shopping mall, making off with a couple of PlayStations.
Then, on Monday morning, at around 8:30AM, another gang of about eight armed men in a Quantum minibus robbed a pharmacy in Melville, north of Johannesburg.
The suspects allegedly went into May’s Pharmacy on Main Road, pretending to be customers before robbing the daylights out of the store.
Holding the store up at gunpoint, the gang managed to get their hands on an undisclosed amount of cash and cellphones, reported EWN.
A security officer responded to the scene and that’s when a dramatic shootout occurred between them and the robbers, leaving a random passer-by injured in the crossfire, TimeLIVE confirmed.
Some of the chaos was caught on camera and posted to Twitter by Yusuf Abramjeee:

You can see four robbers taking cover inside the pharmacy while one private security guard fires shots at them from behind a pillar:
Here’s SAPS spokesperson Lt-Col Mavela Masondo:
“A passenger of a truck that was passing by was hit by a stray bullet and rushed to the nearest hospital for medical treatment. Police are appealing to anyone who might have information that can help in the investigation or assist to apprehend the suspects to please call the nearest police station.”
