CCTV footage has once again caught a gang of robbers amidst their stealing rampage in a South African mall.
The recent video shows around seven suspects trying to smash the door of a store in Durban’s Gateway Theatre of Shopping mall early on Sunday morning.
Once the robbers got into the store, they unfolded bags and blankets as they pealed PlayStation consoles and other loot from the shelves before carrying it all off.
It looks like they came prepared to take as much as they could, using sticks to get things from the top shelves and climbing the counters in the ill-fated Game 4U store.
IOL reported that it took the criminals “less than two minutes” to steal what they could before making their getaway.
In the video posted by KZN VIP Protection Services on Facebook, it was said that the whole affair took around five minutes:
In a statement, Durban North and Umhlanga community policing forum public relations officer Darryl Oliver said the incident took place around 5AM on Sunday:
“They fled in a single-vehicle. Two shots were fired by perpetrators in an effort to clear their exit,” Oliver said.
“There was no shootout between security and the perpetrators and at no stage was there any risk to life.”
He added that SAPS attended the scene with other security providers. He said SAPS would conduct the necessary investigation.
Another store was apparently held up by around 12 robbers at approximately 7AM.
Those robbers made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
