Now that’s what I’d call a royal giggle.
Prince Charles was caught having a bit of a Prince Philip moment on Sunday, and now a rarely candid video of the royal is doing the rounds online.
In it, the grey-haired heir apparent can be seen doubled over in laughter, chortling in a less-than-regal manner at something in the middle of the Platinum Jubilee Parade.
Take a gander:
The occasion was part of Queen Elizabeth II’s Jubilee celebrations, which celebrate the 70th anniversary of the iconic monarch’s reign.
Members of the royal family looked on as an enormous military pageant took to the streets on horseback, and while the Queen herself did not ride in her famous Gold State Coach (which looks like a carriage from the pages of a fairytale,) it did make an appearance; and Ed Sheeran crowned the festivities with a live performance in recognition of the monarch’s seven decades of service to the United Kingdom.
But the internet’s fancy has been diverted by the footage of ordinarily stoic Prince Charles in hysterics.
Seated next to his wife, Camilla, The Duchess of Cornwall, Charles can be seen trying to explain the source of his mirth to his family, including Prince William, who at one point leaned over his stepmother to see what (or who!) had tickled Charles’ imagination. But it seems the joke was lost on the rest of the royal party, as while both Camilla and William can be seen laughing politely, they are not nearly as amused as their future King.
Still, it’s always refreshing to get a glimpse behind the austere, formal facade of “the Firm,” and to be reminded that, fundamentally, they’re just a family with an unruly grandfather at the helm.
We can only hope the Prince wasn’t in trouble with his wife – or his formidable mother – when they got home… that is, back to the Palace.
