The Ukrainian army has released footage of what it’s like to be torpedoed out of the sky by a surface-to-air missile.
Filmed from an unnamed aerial vehicle (UAV), The Ukrainian 45th Air Assault Brigade posted the striking video on Facebook, on June 4.
It shows a rocket being launched from a field, swivelling as it projectiles towards its target, before blasting the drone out of the sky, at which point the recording cuts out.
The footage took place in southwest Polohy in Ukraine, an area frighteningly close to a city in the Zaporizhzhia Oblast which is currently under the control of the Russian Armed Forces.
Have a look for yourself:
A UK-based security expert flagged the video on his Twitter account, mentioning that the destroyed drone was a “Ukrainian indigenous drone”, per PetaPixel:
“Much better quality than the Russian types but still don’t have the type of image stabilization you see on more advanced Western models. Far, far cheaper though.”
He also speculated that surface-to-air missile (SAM) was likely vehicle-mounted.
It has been around 100 days now since Russia invaded Ukraine in February, with the fighting now centred in the Luhansk Oblast area of Eastern Ukraine.
The city of Severodonetsk is getting the worst of it, where the situation is changing “every hour,” according to Severodonetsk’s mayor Oleksandr Striuk.
It is safe to say that the Eastern Ukraine situation is looking terribly bleak, although, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is adamant that his country’s forces will not give up under any circumstance.
