You have to give it to Jack Black for his delightful exaggeration and pure comedy.

The way he rolled (all of his best movies into one appearance) on the stage to accept the MTV Comedic Genius Award was exactly the kind of over the top performance that fans love.

He didn’t have to, but he really proved why he deserved to be honoured with the golden popcorn at the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards.

On Sunday, the 52-year-old actor and musician was recognised for his contributions to the world of comedy at this year’s awards show, presented live in Los Angeles, reported PEOPLE:

After Awkwafina introduced a montage of clips from some of Black’s most famous roles, the funny man began his acceptance speech, “Comedic Genius? Come on, are you kidding? For what?!”

“The Comedic Genius designation ‘honors an actor who has made incomparable contributions to the world of comedy, providing a major influence through their work and transforming the genre at large’ — and what could better describe Black’s work in both film and the musical sphere, where his band Tenacious D has made a Grammy-winning career out of embracing spectacle (and pure rock and roll attitude).”

Black has been killing it in comedy films over the past 25-plus years, working alongside bandmate Kyle Gass, the other half of the comedy rock duo Tenacious D, for some of the 90s.

His lead role opposite Gwyneth Paltrow in 2001’s Shallow Hal was a knockout, but then again so was everything else he’s starred in.

Standouts include comedy gold like School of Rock, Nacho Libre, The Holiday, Tropic Thunder and even 2006’s semi-autobiographical fantasy Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny.

His comedy career extends way past all that, which IMDb is sure to have covered.

Black is only the fifth person to win the award, which goes to show how prestigious the golden popcorn can be.

Other awardees have been Will Ferrell, Kevin Hart, Melissa McCarthy, and most recently Sacha Baron Cohen in 2021.
