When Will Smith slapped Chris Rock as the world watched on at the Oscars, onlookers could only speculate about the reaction and feelings of his wife and muse Jada Pinkett Smith.
It looked like she was laughing a little at one stage, but some also say she was just as shocked and confused as the rest of the audience as Will shouted to Chris to “keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth”.
In case you’re not caught up, the incident has resulted in a 10-year Oscars ban for Will and his resignation from the Academy, alongside multiple apologies and talk of “healing”.
He went to India to practice yoga and meditation soon after everything, apparently. So dramatic, so Will.
As for Jada, she revealed some of her feelings two days after the slap, posting on Instagram that “This is a season for healing and I’m here for it.”
She also mentioned that she would be discussing the Oscars fallout with her family on her talk show when the time is ready, PEOPLE reported.
That show, Red Table Talk, is often the place where she and her family unpack rather private things openly and publicly.
Well, two months later and the time has arrived for her to reveal her perspective on the whole thing.
In the latest episode of RTT, she talks about the incident and her experience with the hair-loss disease that started all of this in the first place.
Remember, Chris had made an insensitive joke about Jada looking like “G.I. Jane” with her shaved haircut.
Before getting into her health journey with alopecia, she dug into the Oscars night, per Elle:
“My deepest hope is that these two intelligent capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out, and reconcile.
The state of the world today, we need them both and we all actually need one another more than ever.
Until then, Will and I are continuing to do what we have done for the last 28 years, and that’s to keep figuring out this thing called life together. Thank you for listening.”
