It’s been a bit of a rough week for Free State mayor Motloheloa Mokatsane.
As a general rule, people try and steer clear of using the ‘k-word’ for good reason.
However, during an impromptu speech to demonstrators outside the Viljoenskroon magistrate’s court in the Free State on Tuesday, where a case linked to gender-based violence was taking place, Mokatsane decided he would speak his mind.
That was not a good idea, and the crowd immediately turned on him after he said “crime is what we were born for as k****rs”:
The moment just before he says “let me put it in a better way” is when the penny drops.
Per News24, the apology from his office came soon afterwards:
Moqhaka municipality spokesperson Dika Kheswa told News24 that the mayor was not attacking any racial group, and was using a “figure of speech” during his address…
“The mayor wholeheartedly retracts the use of the k-word and the offence this might have caused to the entire community. The mayor wishes to apologise to the residents of Moqhaka and the country at large.”
Naturally, the ANC said it was taking the incident “seriously” and it would be referred to the party’s disciplinary committee.
There’s a cushy gig.
The EFF is calling for Mokatsane’s axing. I guess robbing people of their life savings is fine, but don’t you dare use that word.
