A R20,5 million Lotto jackpot is on the line.
The winner of that whopping amount has not yet stepped forward and has just days left to figure out the money is all theirs.
A failure to do so will result in a loss of exactly R20 569 105.
The Ithuba National Lottery said that the jackpot was won on May 29 last year and the ticket is due to expire this Sunday, May 29.
A winner is given a year to claim their prize.
That means the AWOL winner has already overlooked 363 days where they could have claimed this life-changing amount of money.
TimesLIVE reported that the winning ticket was played in Carletonville, Gauteng, using the manual selection with a wager of R40 on Lotto draw number 2 130.
If the person doesn’t step forward by Sunday, the unclaimed money will go into the National Lottery Distribution Fund (NLDTF), which Ithuba said goes towards various good causes.
This current clueless winner is not the only one who has (almost) missed a chance for a new fortune, per News24, which reported that an eye-watering R280 million in national lottery winnings have gone unclaimed.
Around R110 million of these winnings are set to expire in the next six months.
There’s a potential winner in Fort Beaufort, Eastern Cape, who has about a month left to claim the PowerBall draw worth R7 million.
Staggeringly, there’s a Florida, Johannesburg, resident who needs to claim their win for a R126 million PowerBall ticket. That sum was won in the May 20 draw, so it’s only been a week.
I’d already be on a beach somewhere far-flung with a strong drink in hand.
Shame, let’s hope these folks wisen up before it’s too late.
