Not everybody is fortunate enough to have their wealth grow by R13 billion (£659 million) in one year.
Except for one South African diamond and mining magnate, that is.
With his newly minted fortune of £6,5 billion (roughly R129 billion), Nicky Oppenheimer (below) and his family are standing tall on the UK Sunday Times 2022 Rich List.
They’re 24th now, climbing nicely from last year’s 31st spot on the rich list.
He is one of two Saffa billionaires on this year’s list of the top 100 richest British folks, alongside Douw Steyn, reported TimesLIVE.
Steyn and his family have been ranked 84th on the list for their wealth of R42 billion (about £2,1 billion) which has been made in the insurance market.
He climbed five spots up from 79th on the list last year.
Must be nice.
Here’s the top 10 on this year’s Sunday Times Rich List:
Brothers Sri and Gopi Hinduja are the richest people in Britain, worth £28,4 billion.
Brothers Sri, 86, and Gopi 82, Hinduja top The Sunday Times Rich List for a fourth time, with the biggest fortune recorded in the list’s 34-year history.
London-based Gopi Hinduja is leading the family’s charge into electric vehicles. His son Dheeraj, 50, oversees their Leeds-based Switch Mobility, which is developing a new generation of zero-emission buses, vans and trucks.
They managed to grow their wealth by an eye-watering £11,4 billion since last year.
In second place on the list this year, is billionaire inventor Sir James Dyson with a fortune of £23 billion, up by £6,7 billion since 2021.
He owns more land in England than the Queen and is known for some zany creations:
Known as the Dyson Zone, the over-ear noise-cancelling headphones are fitted with an air-purifying mask that gives the wearer more than a passing resemblance to a cyberman — the launch at the end of March sparked suspicions of an April fool’s gag.
We tried to get our heads around that one.
Third on the list is another pair of brothers, Indian-born David and Simon Reuben, with a net worth of £22,265 billion, up £800 million in 2021.
Don’t worry, Elon Musk, you’re still the world’s wealthiest man with a net worth of $207,3 billion.
