All eyes were on Kate Middleton slinking across the red carpet in black and white, but perhaps Prince William’s shoes deserve just as much attention.
The couple were Tom Cruise’s royal guests at the premiere of his latest action movie, Top Gun: Maverick.
They looked dapper and delightful, but it’s the Duke of Cambridge that gets top marks for effort.
Shame, he really put his best foot forward with those Crockett & Jones black velvet loafers embroidered with planes.
Not just any planes, either – they’re in honour of the aircraft famously featured in Top Gun, the F-18 Super Hornet:
PEOPLE reported that William once served as a pilot with the Royal Air Force and was an air ambulance helicopter pilot.
His interest in Cruise’s movie action is precisely why the actor invited the royal couple to the screening in the first place:
The London premiere won’t be the first time William and Kate have seen the highly anticipated film. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were reportedly treated to a special screening of the Top Gun sequel at the invitation of Cruise, who had heard William was a fan of the original 1986 movie.
In Cruise’s own words:
“We have a lot in common,” Cruise said of the royal at the premiere, according to My London. “We both love England and we’re both aviators, we both love flying.”
It would be a treat to see William put through Cruise’s infamous Top Gun boot camp, would it not?
Back to Kate, who complimented William perfectly in her floor-length, off-the-shoulder Roland Mouret black dress with a white bandeau:
One more time, here are the royals in action:
