Sol Plaatje Municipal Spokesperson Thoko Reit didn’t cover herself in glory during a live interview with SABC News last week.
Kimberley residents were preparing for three days without water and wanted to know what measures the municipality would have in place to ensure there was at least some respite.
In response, Reit failed to provide much confidence in the municipality’s response with a rambling answer devoid of any actual substance.
As you can imagine, reports The South African, social media users were unforgiving:

English is clearly not Reit’s first language, and that should be taken into consideration, but her LinkedIn profile does list her profession as ‘Communications Specialist at Sol Plaatje municipality’.
It also states she has worked as the municipality’s ‘Senior Communications Officer’ since November 2006.
The full interview can be seen here.
According to an SABC News story from February, the municipality “is in dire financial straits” and is unable “to pay Eskom, the Department of Water and Sanitation, and other municipal suppliers”.
