2OV Throwback Thursday – The ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire Coolest Winner’ Viral Video

'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire' looks easy from the couch, but under the glare of the lights many people crack up. Not John Carpenter.

The recent flurry of public holidays has shown that we can survive on a four-day workweek.

It also means five-day weeks drag on. Well done on making it through to Thursday, and as a reward here’s a viral video of yesteryear.

This week we’re looking at the man that is arguably the coolest cucumber in game show history – John Carpenter

On the November 19, 1999 episode of Millionaire (as they call it in the US), Carpenter went all the way to the final question without using a single lifeline.

No asking the audience, no 50/50, and no phoning a friend. Then the $1 million question arrived, and he decided to ring up his parents:

That is one smooth operator.

The win made Carpenter the first contestant in the worldwide Millionaire franchise to win the show’s top prize.

Along with the cold, hard cash, that’s a lovely bonus.
