Look at Benjamin Chew’s face – he can’t believe his luck.
The libel trial featuring Johnny Depp and Amber Heard may be on a break until Monday, but every detail is still being picked apart in the interim.
In particular, the moment that Heard mentioned Kate Moss and the reaction from one of Depp’s lawyers, Chew.
This via NewsAU:
“Amber mentioned an ex of Johnny’s that clearly she felt was not supportive of him, which couldn’t be further from the truth,” the source said, in an apparent reference to Moss’ potential to help Depp’s case.
Legal experts explained that Heard mentioning Moss on the stand could give her ex-husband’s team the chance to dispel a rumour that he pushed the British supermodel down a flight of stairs when the two dated in the 1990s.
Hence, the smiling look at Depp and the triumphant fist pump:

Heard mentioning Moss by name could actually result in Moss being called as a witness on behalf of Depp:
“[Moss] is still allegedly friends with Johnny and her testimony wasn’t allowed to come in before because it wasn’t as relevant,” said California entertainment lawyer Mitra Ahouraian.
“That’s one mistake that [Heard] made, was bringing up Kate Moss, which potentially opened the door to [Depp’s team] bringing [Moss] on as an impeachment witness,” — and Moss “saying ‘this never happened,’” Ahouraian explained.
Moss and Depp were in a relationship from 1994 until 1997, and there were also rumours they were engaged before calling it quits.
In response, legal eagles say Heard’s team could argue that mentioning Moss was done to explain Heard’s “state of mind” when she hit Depp and that there is thus no need to enter any additional evidence on that front.
When the trial resumes on Monday, you can be certain Depp’s team will mention Moss during what will be a rigorous cross-examination.
Moss has yet to comment on whether she would consider testifying on behalf of Depp.
