Once again, Adam Sandler is stepping out of his comedy comfort zone for a Netflix movie.
We may connect the Hollywood actor with films like The Waterboy, Big Daddy, or Spanglish, but every now and then he does end up surprising us with a more serious character.
Uncut Gems really brought that home.
Now, he’s teaming up with LeBron James in Hustle, playing a down-on-his-luck basketball scout in need of a win.
IndieWire has more:
Sandler plays fictional Philadelphia 76ers scout Stanley “Sugarman” Beren, whose career hinges on Spanish player Bo Cruz, portrayed by real-life NBA star Juancho Hernangomez.
Written by Will Fetters and Taylor Materne, “Hustle” is directed by Jeremiah Zagar. The official logline reads: After discovering a once-in-a-lifetime player with a rocky past abroad, a down on his luck basketball scout (Sandler) takes it upon himself to bring the phenom to the States without his team’s approval.
Against the odds, they have one final shot to prove they have what it takes to make it in the NBA.
Shoot:
A movie about basketball is perfect for Sandler’s return to Netflix since he is a massive fan and is often spotted shooting hoops around New York.
Hustle will be out on Netflix from June 8.
