We usually wait until later in the day before we cover the trailers of whatever movie or series has piqued our interest.
But this is the sequel to Avatar, the highest-grossing film of all time, so we’ll make an exception.
Technically, it’s a teaser trailer and we’re likely going to see a deluge of snippets over the coming months. I’m fine with that, so let’s get the ball rolling.
The second film is titled Avatar: The Way of Water. Although the trailer light on plot details, we do get a glimpse of the stunning visuals.
Here’s Digital Spy:
We only get one line of dialogue in the teaser from Sam Worthington’s Jake Sully: “I know one thing. Wherever we go, this family is our fortress.
The footage shows Jake and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña, respectively) riding the flying creatures from the first film, and swimming underwater with new whale-like beasties.
Fun fact – I once met Sam Worthington, just a few months after Avatar came out, and had no idea who he was.
The new trailer also comes with a brief synopsis:
Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.
Feast your eyes on it:
Avatar: The Way of Water will be released in multiple formats, including 2D, 3D, IMAX, high-frame-rate versions and more.
Prepare to wait, though, because it’s only hitting cinemas on December 16.
