Most of us have been using WhatsApp for years and the updates and added features have been coming in nice and steady.
Still, the messaging app is far from perfect, which is why Mark Zuckerberg and his Meta minions are hard at work to keep the service relevant.
True to that, there are three new changes on the WhatsApp horizon.
One is the launch of a ‘reactions’ feature, similar to that found on Facebook and Facebook Messenger.
The feature, which will allow users to react to messages with an emoji, was rolled out in part yesterday.
Meta spokesperson Vispi Bhopti said that the company expects reactions to be rolled out globally in “about a week”.
Per BusinessTech, the reactions you should be able to use include:
I struggle to see how this is necessary since we can already select an emoji from the thousands available in the options box.
Don’t be basic, get creative. A tooth for strength and frog for awkwardness, all the way.
Another change on its way is the ability for admins to delete any message for everyone in group chats:
According to the [insider website WABetaInfo] report, if you are a group admin and want to delete a message for everyone in the group, an alert will appear.
The notice will inform you that group participants can see who deleted the message. The update will also include an extended timeframe during which you can delete messages for everyone. The deletion period will be extended to two-and-a-half days.
That could come in real handy when someone mistakenly sends a photo or message to the wrong group and doesn’t realise themselves. Or something like that…
The last feature to look forward to is letting users chat using the same account on multiple devices, like their phones or tablets.
WhatsApp will allow you to register a secondary device as a “companion” by selecting ‘Linked Devices’ in settings and scanning a QR Code using your primary device.
That’s all for now in the WhatsApp world.
Heart react.
