We’ve all shouted, or at least muttered, the phrase at some point.
Okay, definitely if you live in the Western Cape. I can’t speak for the rest of the country.
Shout out ‘jou ma se p**s’ on a rugby field and there’s a good chance the ref will take action, as he did during a schoolboy clash between DF Malan and Brackenfell.
It’s unclear which age group match this was, with IOL reporting that the referee intervened immediately:
A very agitated referee stops the game with a shrill blast of his whistle and calls up the Brackenfell captain and then the offending player, and lays down the law: “Your discipline is lacking, you can’t say ’your ma se P… This is nonsense, you can’t be saying ‘your ma se P…’”
I think you’ll find it’s ‘jou ma se’ but the point stands.
DF Malan was then awarded a penalty. The only footage we could find is this video on TikTok:

Fair play to the man with the whistle for laying down the law.
There were far uglier scenes up in KwaZulu-Natal this past weekend during an under-16 clash between Northwood High and Kearsney College:
…the schoolboys initially were innocent as the fracas was caused by a miffed parent who was convinced the referee had cheated Northwood in the game.
He is seen first approaching the referee, who beats a retreat, and then he grabs a Kearsney boy, which is when all hell breaks loose…
Observe:
U16 Northwood parent who apparently thought his sons team was cheated causes a massive brawl at Kearsney college today. It’s schoolboy rugby folks, don’t take it so seriously… pic.twitter.com/3rVSLJkFfx

Imagine taking an under-16 rugby match this seriously as a parent?
What a sad state of affairs.
In the wake of that footage being widely shared, Northwood released this statement:
Hopefully, the parent has been suitably dealt with.
