Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are at war in a courtroom in Virginia.
Depp filed a $50 million defamation case against his ex-wife, and Heard hit back with a $100 million counterclaim against him.
The details of each day of the trial are splashed across every major media outlet. Salacious stories about severed fingers and beds full of faeces will always grab headlines.
On Tuesday, Tara Roberts, who manages Depp’s sprawling property on his private island in the Bahamas, was cross-examined via videolink regarding a 2013 incident where the actor passed out on the beach in front of his children.
You can read more on that here while we turn our attention to the island itself.
NewsAU reports that Depp bought Little Hall’s Pond Cay in 2004 for $3,6 million:
The luxury island getaway, which has a main house, a two-bedroom yurt, a beach house and a “roundhouse” outfitted with a bedroom was the site of the doomed couple’s wedding ceremony in 2015.
Depp reportedly spotted his treasured island while starring in 2003’s “Pirates of the Caribbean”… Despite starting out with no infrastructure, the actor ended up building a “ranch-style house with a stunning 360-degree view,” of the island.
The island is located in the Exumas archipelago, which is around 100 kilometres from Nassau, the capital city of the Bahamas.
What’s a private island without a yacht to get you there, right?
Depp also dropped more than $8 million on a yacht named Vajoliroja, but he has since sold it.
It’s unlikely that the island will go the same way as it holds much sentimental value:
Each of the island’s beaches are named after something special to him. He named two after his children, Lily-Rose, 21, and Jack, 18. Another is named for his ex, Vanessa Paradis. Gonzo beach honours the late author Hunter S. Thompson and features glass tables with Thompson’s face etched into them.
Depp also named one of the beaches Brando, after his friend and mentor Marlon Brando, whom he reportedly consulted when he first wanted to purchase an island.
In 2009, Depp said in an interview with Vanity Fair that the residences on the island were mostly solar-powered and called the island the most “pure and beautiful” place he had ever seen.
More details via DMARGE:
Little Hall’s Pond Cay is also a part of the Exuma Land and Sea Park protected area, which means no one can disturb the natural flora and fauna on the island; something that clearly doesn’t bother Depp – he named a five-foot-long iguana that lives on the island, Iggy.
He also stated that he gets around using golf carts.
Private island living sounds like a pretty good time.
