Where to begin?
Prince William being called a “holy terror” as a toddler, or the details of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles’ sex life?
Tina Brown just dropped some juicy details about the British royals in her book, The Palace Papers, which hits shelves today in the US.
NewsAU reported that Brown wrote about Queen Elizabeth complaining to Prince Philip about how “out of control” her grandson was when he was younger.
Apparently, little William would often chime in with “when I am king, I’m going to make a new rule that…” whenever something didn’t go his way, which the Queen was not at all amused by:
Diana admitted that when she and Charles returned from a royal tour of Canada in 1983, William, whom they had nicknamed “Wombat,” was turning into “a holy terror – dashing about bumping into tables and lamps, breaking everything in sight”.
“By the time he was four, he had the unattractive habit of yapping at his nanny, Barbara Barnes, ‘No one tells me what to do! When I am king I will have you punished.’”
William’s infamy extended beyond palace grounds, gaining him the nickname “Basher Wills” at preschool.
He was also known to squirt the Highgrove guards with water whenever he liked.
It was only at the age of six that William started behaving like a good little royal, eventually growing into his mother Diana’s “most trusted confidant” and “little wise old man”.
William’s naughty role was soon taken over by his brother Harry who was described as an “exuberant imp of misrule”.
Largely because he smeared “sheep shit” over his father Charles’ suit as he was about to board a helicopter for an official trip.
Speaking of Prince Charles, who we already know is a little eccentric, Brown also divulged the lavish way in which he prefers to travel, even if it’s just for a stay at a friend’s country house.
Page Six has the details:
Prince Charles’ former aide, Michael Fawcett, would oversee the “paraphernalia that preceded his boss like the baggage train of a Tudor traveling court,” Brown writes, “including the Prince’s orthopedic bed, lavatory seat, and Kleenex Velvet lavatory paper, plus two landscapes of the Scottish landscapes.”
“When he traveled to stay at friends’ country houses, a truck arrived the day before, bringing his bed, furniture, and even pictures, which his pampering aide Michael Fawcett ensured would be hung in his allotted bedroom in place of the possessions of his host,” Brown writes. (Fawcett is the same valet who famously squeezed Prince Charles’ toothpaste for him so he could brush his teeth.)
Brown also chronicled 22-year-old Charles and 23-year-old Camilla Parker Bowles’ impassioned relationship and sex life.
Brown noted how Camilla was far more experienced in the bedroom compared to Charles, even offering a few helpful tips:
“‘Pretend I’m a rocking horse,’ she is said to have urged him, to conquer his early diffidence in bed,” Brown notes, adding that he appreciated his girlfriend’s “sexual joie de vivre.”
Golly.
