It’s been just over six months since cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was shot and killed in a fatal accident on the set of Rust, a Western starring Alec Baldwin.
During that time, accusations and counteraccusations have flown around. Weeks after the shooting, Baldwin claimed he never actually pulled the trigger.
Hutchins’ family disagree and a lawsuit against Baldwin and others involved in the film has been filed on their behalf.
The most recent development involves video evidence from the investigation into the shooting, released yesterday by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office.
In the footage, reports CNN, we get some insight into the investigators’ first interview with Baldwin:
In the first moments of his interview, Baldwin asks a deputy if he is being charged with anything, to which the deputy responds he is not, the video shows…
Footage of the interview, conducted in a small interview room, shows Baldwin describing the process of handling weapons and the usual steps taken on set.
Coverage from CBS shows some of the clips spliced together, including medics racing to the scene and bodycam footage of first responders battling to save Hutchins:
In response to the clips being released, Baldwin’s attorney, Luke Nikas, said the information “demonstrates, once again, that Mr Baldwin acted responsibly and did not have control over any production issues”.
The attorney for Matthew Hutchins, the widower of Halyna Hutchins, said that the family would not comment on the evidence released.
Attorney Brian Panish did say that they were “surprised by the decision of the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office to release such a large amount of evidence today given that the investigation is still ongoing and active”.
