We offered a wee spoiler about this series, featuring an original Banksy artwork getting destroyed by Christopher Walken, in November last year.
Oops, we did it again.
Sorry, not sorry – when it comes to Walken, it is hard to keep quiet.
That’s why, even though The Outlaws came out in 2021, Mashable is revisiting why it is such a “criminally fun watch”.
Also, it just dropped on Prime Video, so there is a new potential audience of people to enjoy the workplace comedy.
Walken featuring in The Outlaws is a good enough excuse to watch, but there’s also the involvement of the comedian, writer, director, and actor who co-created the original hilarious workplace comedy, The Office, with Ricky Gervais.
Stephen Merchant is the name. Besides creating The Outlaws with filmmaker Elgin James, he also features as an actor, bringing all that The Office humour that so many people love so much.
More on the plot:
The six-episode season follows seven law-breaking strangers who are forced to carry out their community service sentences together.
They’re tasked with restoring a local community center in Bristol, UK, which sounds fairly straightforward and innocent, but when one member of the group wades back into criminal waters they all find themselves in precarious positions.
The journey inspires a series of schemes and lies, offers the characters some much-needed introspection, and leads to an unlikely, heartwarming friendship.
More cowbell!
Sorry, I got carried away. Let’s see that trailer:
The collective chemistry of the crew is what makes it so enjoyable, according to the review:
Flaws and all, The Outlaws takes viewers on a joyride jam-packed with satisfying moments of suspense, quality jokes, and hints of romance.
The “joyride” series also grapples with serious topics like racism, police, politics, and privilege, giving the characters some range and depth.
Season one is currently available on Prime Video.
