Aspen is one of the most expensive ski towns in America, with apartments often going for as much as $27 860 per square metre (around R400 000).
According to a monthly report from the Aspen Board of Realtors, the average sales price of a single-family home in the area for February was $13,52 million (R196 million).
Last year, the town set a record with the sale of an Aspen mansion for $72,5 million (just over R1 billion).
It is in this climate that Tommy Hilfiger’s hobby of flipping homes just reaped a sizeable reward.
The multi-millionaire and fashion designer stands to make a profit of $19 million (around R275 million) from the sale of his Aspen ski lodge mansion:
Business Insider has more about the deal:
Tommy Hilfiger sold his Aspen ski house to an undisclosed buyer for $50 million (R725 million) last week, The Wall Street Journal first reported. Listing agent Steven Shane of Compass confirmed to Insider that he had represented both sides in the off-market deal.
The sale comes almost three months after Hilfiger and his wife, Dee Ocleppo Hilfiger, bought the home, which is on Aspen’s Little Nell ski trail, for $31 million (R450 million), per The Journal.
The property is one of only two true ski-in, ski-out single-family homes on Aspen Mountain.
The Sydney Morning Herald mentions that the flip only took Hilfiger three months to make a profit after spending several years looking for a “legacy property” in Aspen:
The 664-square-metre contemporary style home is constructed from brick and stone and offered four bedrooms, seven bathrooms, two half bathrooms, a two-car garage and a fireplace.
Other features included an elevator, patio/deck and security system.
After a hard day on the slopes you could warm up and rest those tired muscles in the steam shower or enjoy a soak in the outdoor hot tub/spa.
This would just be another day in the life of Hilfiger, who has bought and sold numerous high-value properties from Miami to Manhattan over the years.
