Flee the hustle and bustle.
Head for the sea.
Leave your troubles behind.
Semigration (moving from one part of the country to another, rather than abroad) has seen a massive spike during the two years we’ve been living with COVID-19.
The most popular moves tend to be away from big cities in Gauteng to areas in the countryside or small coastal towns.
Saint Francis Bay, or St Francis Bay, isn’t as quiet as it once was but it’s still proving very popular (even with Cape Town cats who have hitched an unexpected ride).
BusinessTech reports that “the number of residential property sales transactions in St Francis Bay surged to its highest level in a decade during 2021”:
According to Lightstone statistics, activity in the St Francis Bay housing market escalated last year (2021), with the highest number of freehold (173) and sectional title (55) units, sold in a decade.
Rising from just 37 sales in 2012 and 117 in 2020 to 229 sales in 2021, vacant plot sales have also soared to the highest number during the past decade.
Richard Arderne, area principal for Pam Golding Properties, told the outlet that buyers come from a number of different spots.
Gqeberha features, due to proximity, with the rest from the likes of Gauteng, Cape Town, KwaZulu-Natal, as well as abroad from the UK, Holland, Sweden, Germany, and the US.
In the Eastern Cape, Port Alfred and Kenton-on-Sea are also popular spots.
But let’s stick with St Francis and have a look through what’s on offer.
For the high rollers, we’re looking at just a tick under R15 million for a six-bedroom home on the Canals:
The house is being sold fully furnished, but if you really want to treat yourself there are boats and jet skis available at an additional cost.
Scaled back a touch, you can still pick up a cracker for around the R4 million mark.
This three-bedroom house in St Francis Bay Village has sea views and a great outside area for entertaining:
As promised, there’s the ocean:
One has to mention that bar as well.
If you’re in the semigration game, best of luck to you.
