There’s a scene in Scarface when Tony Montana, played by the indomitable Al Pacino, buries his face in a mountain of cocaine as his world crumbles around him.
Rumour has it you can see similar scenes playing out in bar bathrooms across the Atlantic Seaboard on certain Saturday evenings.
Just what we’ve heard.
For those who would rather own a piece of Scarface history than hoover it up, El Fureidis, the grand mansion featured as the home and symbol of Montana in the 1983 film, is now on the market.
The property, located in Montecito, California, carries a whopping $40 million price tag (or $39 995 000 if you want to be unnecessarily particular).
Forbes reports:
Designed by celebrated architect Bertram Goodhue for real estate tycoon James Waldron Gillespie—who is said to have traveled to Montecito because of its likeness to the fair-weather climates of the Mediterranean—the 10-acre estate was completed in 1906.
Since then, the roughly 12,000-square-foot mansion has welcomed such remarkable guests Einstein, Churchill and John F. Kennedy. Renowned German author, Thomas Mann, is among former owners.
Though the estate has undergone renovations and updates to include modern comforts, the original grandeur remains.
Five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, fountains, a 24-karat gold leaf painting of Alexander the Great conquering Persepolis on the dining room ceiling, and Hollywood history will be all yours.
Let’s take a video tour:
The views on a clear day stretch all the way to the Pacific, including the Channel Islands.
$40 million is a lot of dough. That’s just shy of R600 million, which means you could buy this cracker on Nettleton Road in Clifton and still have R420 million in change.
My argument is can you really put a price on saying this to every person who walks through the door? I think not.
