We’re just shy of 30 years since the release of that Mike Myers comedy, So I Married An Axe Murderer.
But something Stuart Mackenzie (played by Myers, of course) said in the movie has stuck with the Canadian actor, comedian, director, producer, and screenwriter.
In that 1993 film, Myers’ character makes an off-beat speech about a secret society called the “Pentaverate” that rules the world.
Well, Myers has gone and taken those few minutes and turned it into The Pentaverate, a six-part series dropping on Netflix soon, per Mashable:
Netflix just dropped a trailer for The Pentaverate, which, as Mashable’s own Alex Perry sharply observed via Slack, is a conceptual riff on a joke from the almost 30-year-old movie. Now I could explain the premise as the upcoming series’ trailer lays it out, but wouldn’t you rather hear it straight from Myers himself?
Yes, let’s do that:
That monologue has turned into this:
In addition to being the creator and exec-producer, Myers also stars in eight different roles, which TV Line organised in a comprehensive list.
There’s the journalist, Ken Scarborough who is tasked with uncovering that truth, as well as:
- Anthony Lansdowne, a New England conspiracy theorist determined to expose the Pentaverate
- Rex Smith, a far-right radio host and prominent conspiracy theorist
- Lord Lordington, the Pentaverate’s oldest, highest-ranking member
- Bruce Baldwin, a former media mogul
- Mishu Ivanov, an ex-Russian oligarch (Russian ex-oligarch?)
- Shep Gordon, a former Rock-N-Roll manager
- and Jason Eccleston, the tech genius who invented the Pentaverate’s supercomputer, MENTOR
The non-Myers cast features Keegan-Michael Key, Debi Mazar, Ken Jeong, Jennifer Saunders, Lydia West, Richard McCabe, and Neil Mullarkey.
Mike Myers fans, mark down May 5 and the series is yours to binge.
