Hello and welcome to another edition of ‘thank f*ck it’s almost the weekend’.
We are so close. Stay strong.
Nowadays, with the rise and rise of social media, going viral doesn’t require an interview with a local news station.
In 2010 you often had to kick it old school, like Antoine Dodson and his interview with WAFF Channel 48 after his sister was attacked by an intruder in their apartment in Lincoln Park, a public housing complex in Huntsville, Alabama.
Antoine enters around the one-minute mark and instantly cements his place in throwback history:
It’s obviously not the sort of topic you joke about but Dodson struck a chord.
“Hide your kids, hide your wife” became a popular catchphrase and not too long after the clip went viral, the remixes started.
This has in excess of 115 million views:
Dodson even performed the song live at the 2010 BET Awards:
For an update on what came next, here’s a 2019 piece from AL:
Dodson [said] he is enjoying life working for Huntsville City Schools. He said he got his commercial driver’s license and a license as a substitute teacher so he could be part of the lives of his younger sisters, nieces and nephews attending Huntsville schools.
Dodson also said he has a “beautiful baby boy” and that he and his son’s mother have a great relationship. “I don’t mind labeling myself as being a bisexual because I never know what the future holds,” he said. “My son’s mother, she completely understood and she completely got it.”
Despite the evidence left at the scene, the intruder was ever caught.
