Live television can be unforgiving, especially in the age of social media.
Make a mistake and you can bet somebody is going to share your mishap for the rest of the world to enjoy.
In the case of Rahul Shivshankar, a right-wing television anchor for the Indian news channel Times Now, his mistake is made all the more enjoyable by the fact that there are two other people involved and a massive plot twist at the end.
The video started going viral on Twitter (this already has in excess of nine million views) but I’ll use a YouTube version below.
I don’t want to give too much away so, in a nutshell, Shivshankar is trying to berate Daniel McAdams, the executive director of the Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity.
You have to watch through to around the 1:20 mark before things take a 180. Keep an eye on the bloke in the bottom right:
Clearly, the first mistake was made by the show’s producers, with the on-screen titles mixed up.
McAdams is incorrectly labelled as Bohdan Nahaylo, the chief editor of Ukraine’s English-language newspaper Kyiv Post, and vice versa.
After at least five viewings I am still unsure about my favourite line.
“I’m not talking. It’s the other guy. I haven’t been able to say a word!”
“Dear host, I have not said a word yet!”
“I am Mr McAdams and I haven’t said a word!”
It’s just delightful.
