Procol Harum‘s Gary Brooker passed away on February 19 at the age of 76.
‘A Whiter Shade Of Pale’ remains one of the most commercially successful singles of all time, selling in excess of 10 million copies globally.
Billy Joel has always been a fan and over the years has regularly covered the song.
According to NME, he covered it “during a Cincinnati concert in 2021 and a solo take during a Town Hall Q&A and concert with Howard Stern in 2014”.
On Saturday, during his show at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium, he once again paid tribute to Brooker and the band with a fantastic rendition of the 1967 classic:
Brooker had been receiving treatment for cancer and died peacefully at home with his wife of 54 years by his side.
While you’re here, may I humbly request you read this wonderful satirical take on ‘Piano Man’ and another on Billy Joel attending a party where there’s a piano.
