The Champagne supply is running dry.
Caused by the continuous supply chain issues, extreme weather events and of course, the COVID-19 pandemic, experts believe the shortage of the real stuff is only the beginning.
Not to mention the sheer demand, with almost everybody wanting more bubbles in their lives.
Since sparkling wine was listed as a leading trend in the wine industry for 2022, we have to come up with a couple of worthy alternatives.
As if fate is a kind of magic reserved for beautiful things, Anthonij Rupert Wyne has now launched its maiden vintage L’Ormarins Private Cuvée Cap Classique.
Would you look at that, drinking locally made wines is also a wine industry trend for the year.
Situated in the picturesque Elandskloof valley, with the finest vineyard sites and soils is Altima vineyards.
Fittingly, on Valentine’s Day in 2014, the harvest for the special Cuvée Cap Classique began:
As an ode to the late Anthonij Rupert’s pioneering spirit, forged with dedication and produced according to the traditional method, this exceptional wine has been a project eight years in the making.
The delightful blend of 66% Chardonnay and 34% Pinot Noir was matured for an extraordinary 72 months on the lees, disgorged, and complemented by a further six months under cork before its grand release.
Now, the elegance, sophistication, and beauty of the L’Ormarins Private Cuvée 2014 has arrived, packaged in an exquisite bottle crafted by acclaimed designer and artist, Mark Eisen:
The L’Ormarins Private Cuvée is the perfect expression of freshness, purity, and complexity, akin to the finest internationally produced Champagne-style wines.
It is crafted exclusively from the Tête du Cuvée of the winemakers’ finest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes in the 2014 vintage, all to represent the purest expression of L’Ormarins in a single bottle:
Look at that rosy hue flirting…
For the tasting notes, the pristine and vigorous bubbles will bring you aromas of toasty sourdough with underlying red berries and stone fruit, rounded by a subtle honeyed note.
On the palate, you will taste a tangy and refreshing entry full of vivid lemon and marmalade flavour.
Overall, it is a complex, sumptuous and well-defined wine, with nothing out of place – perfect for toasting to life’s most precious moments.
Heaven knows we all need to be doing more of that, and no shortage of Champagne should be enough to stop you.
The L’Ormarins Private Cuvée will be available nationally from March 1 through the estate’s online shop or directly from Anthonij Rupert Wine Estate at R470 per bottle.
It is also available to purchase in a beautifully designed gift box:
