It looks increasingly likely that Donald Trump will run for president again in 2024. Just when you think it’s over, right?
Trump was banned from Twitter in the aftermath of the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol by his supporters, for posting messages which incited violence.
This means we have become deprived ‘Covfefe’ and other such gems but on the whole, it’s been a welcome respite.
He won’t go quietly into the night, though, and Donnie is coming back via his own social media platform, Truth Social.
Because if you call it Truth, then you’re establishing trust early on and anything you say must be factually correct, right?
Right?
Anyway, last week Don Jr. told us his dad is up and running on Truth. Naturally, that announcement came via Twitter:

As Mashable points out, it seems strange that you would go hard on advertising the site when the site isn’t up and running:
The screenshot-sharing campaign was clearly an endeavor to promote the upcoming launch of Truth Social. However, from a marketing perspective, it seems like a missed opportunity, primarily because there was nothing to promote…
One thing that is clear, though, is that Truth Social looks like an exact replica of Twitter. The posts all look like tweets, complete with similar looking reply, retweet, share, and like buttons. The profile page looks like you’re viewing a user’s account on Twitter. Perhaps the biggest difference is the dystopian renaming of “tweets” as “truths.”
Boomer energy – if you read it on the internet, it must be true.
It’s like when somebody tells you they read something in the news, you ask where, and they say Facebook.
Stop it. That’s not ‘doing your own research’.
According to Reuters, today appears to be launch day, although that was far from a public announcement:
[It] appears set to launch in Apple’s App Store on Monday, according to posts from an executive on a test version viewed by Reuters, potentially marking the return of the former president to social media on the U.S. Presidents Day holiday.
In a series of posts late on Friday, a verified account for the network’s chief product officer, listed as Billy B., answered questions on the app from people invited to use it during its test phase. One user asked him when the app, which has been available this week for beta testers, would be released to the public, according to screenshots viewed by Reuters.
“We’re currently set for release in the Apple App store for Monday Feb. 21,” the executive responded.
I’ve checked this morning and voila, there it is.
Rather you than me, but if that’s your jam then I guess you’re up and running.
The irony of Truth posts being screenshotted (screenshat?) and shared on Twitter should not be lost on anyone.
