Hailing from Puerto Rico, 24-year-old Sofía Jirau is making history by becoming the first person with Down syndrome to model for Victoria’s Secret.
It seems Victoria’s Secret has come a long way from collecting impossibly tall and thin “Angels” and setting unrealistic beauty and body standards for women all over the world.
The luxury underwear brand has had a major overhaul of late after critics (and the market) pretty much demanded that they show more diversity, inclusivity, and body positivity.
Enter the new campaign for its Love Cloud underwear collection, with Jirau featuring prominently:

HuffPost has what she wrote on an Instagram post, translated from Spanish:
“One day I dreamed it, I worked on it and today it is a dream come true… I can finally tell you my big secret… I am the first Victoria’s Secret model with Down syndrome!”
Jirau is featured alongside 17 other women in the campaign, described as a “first of its kind” by Victoria’s Secret:
“Love Cloud Collection is a major moment in the brand’s evolution,” Raúl Martinez, the brand’s new head creative director, said in a press release.
“From the cast of incredible women that bring the collection to life, to the incredible inclusive spirit on set, this campaign is an important part of the new Victoria’s Secret standard we are creating.”
On the model’s website, she says her career really kicked off during New York Fashion Week two years ago. Her “charisma and infectious personality” is a major plus, according to NBC News:
“Modeling in the United States was the beginning of conquering the dream I have had since an early age: to model on the most important runways in the world,” the site states.
“For me, the most important thing about fulfilling my dreams is to show people around the world that there are no limits and to inspire them to pursue their own dreams.”

She has also launched a Spanish-language campaign of her own called “No Limits” to demonstrate the capacity of people with Down syndrome to achieve their goals despite their condition:
“Thank you Victoria’s Secret for seeing me as a model who has #NoLimits and making me part of the inclusive Love Cloud Collection campaign,” Jirau said on Instagram.
“Inside and out, there are no limits, Alavett!”
Alavett, a bilingual play on words of her favourite phrase “I love it”, is also the name of her online store where she sells her own clothing and accessories lines.
She’s doing the most:

Jirau captioned an Instagram video of her in the Love Cloud campaign with a bit of cheekiness: “Hit play so the entire world can see me make history.”
Yes, ma’am!
