Two videos that show separate criminal acts on our South African roads, one from last Friday and one from Tuesday, are doing the rounds.
Four teachers and a driver were making their way home on the N4 in Witbank, Mpumalanga after a school athletics meeting late last Friday night.
Out of nowhere, one of the bus tyres burst after hitting some rocks that were laid out in the road.
Shortly after the bus pulled over into the emergency lane to tend to the wheel, three robbers, two of whom were armed with a gun and a knife, attacked the teachers inside.
Thank goodness there were no pupils on the bus, News24 confirmed, sharing footage of the ordeal:
The robbers made off with cellphones, cash, jewellery, and a smartwatch.
The communications manager at the Hoërskool Ermelo, Lourie du Plooy, said that the only person injured was the driver who was “hit in the face and sustained a minor jaw injury”.
After the robbers took what they wanted, they promptly left and urged the teachers to fix the tyre and move along.
In another News24 report, CCTV cameras showed the moment a Durban motorist was attacked as he approached his car to leave a parking lot.
The cameras from a nearby business in Sydenham, west of central Durban, show the man about to get into his car when a group of armed robbers jump out of another vehicle parked nearby.
A scuffle ensued, with the motorist putting up a bit of a fight before the assailants drive off with his car:
The police did manage to find the car a few hours after the suspects rode off, confirmed by police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala.
Eish, not a good look for our roads.
If anything, it is another important reminder to remain vigilant at all times.
