It’s a full-time job scrolling through the World Wide Web to pinpoint the best new shows to make sure our watchlists are updated.

That’s why we are really grateful for publications that compile tidy lists of the shows worthy of a good binge sesh.

Paste Magazine has what they like to call the “Power Rankings”, which is a careful selection of the crème de la crème from all the current series on telly.

It doesn’t matter “whether it’s a comedy, drama, news program, animated series, variety show or sports event” as long as its streaming on “network, basic cable, premium channel, Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, YouTube” and was released recently.

Without further ado, here are their picks for the hottest shows at the moment.

The Afterparty

This murder mystery by Christopher Miller defies genres, and can be described simply as “super-freaking-fun”.

Getting into the nitty-gritty of the eight-episode first season, you’ll realise that each episode is told through the lens of a different popular film genre that corresponds to the perspective and personality of the person being interrogated in relation to a murder that occurs at a high school reunion afterparty.

Watch it on Apply TV +.

Abbott Elementary

Written and executively produced by Quinta Brunson, this ABC comedy is inspired by her mother’s experience as a teacher in the Philadelphia public school system.

Brunson is also the main character in this “hilarious and poignant” show that sheds light on the inequities found in American schools.

You can check it out on ABC.

Paste Magazine puts Inventing Anna and Pam & Tommy on the main list, but we’ve covered those shows before, so instead, we’ll delve into three of the “honourable mentions”.

The Righteous Gemstones

In this comedy-drama, we follow a world-famous televangelist family featuring Adam Devine with a long tradition of deviance, greed, and charitable work.

Watch on Showmax now.

Somebody, Somewhere

This seven-part HBO series is like a “coming-of-middle-age” show about a woman (Bridget Everett) trying to piece her life together after a major loss.

Watch on HBO Max.

Single Drunk Female

The challenges of sobriety for 20-somethings is explored in this spikey comedy series created by Simone Finch.

Watch on Freeform or Hulu.

There are never slim pickings for stuff to watch where we are concerned, so enjoy the couch and popcorn until we come back with more.
